We all know that to be successful in frugal living we’ve got to be as organized as possible. Organization helps cut down on the amount of time we waste looking for things and the amount of money we spend needlessly.
To me, if there’s one thing that should take precedence in your home, in terms of organization, it’s keeping paperwork and bills organized and filed neatly. We’ve all done it, misplaced a bill or important document, spent hours ripping the house apart trying to find it. There are few things I find more frustrating than knowing you saw something somewhere the day before only to find it’s vanished into thin air when you need it.
This is why it’s crucial to designate a specific space or area in your home for paperwork; whether it be a desk or a filing cabinet, a box divided into different sections according to household bills, or even a binder. You don’t need a lot of space, because you should stay on top of your paperwork and safely dispose of old bills and papers you no longer need, and a DIY file system is about as frugal living friendly as it gets. You can convert literally anything into an organized system for filing papers. Just be sure to label everything clearly and make sure kids or infamously disorganized spouses keep their paws off it.
It’s sometimes hard to know where to start or how to clean up an area of your home or life that’s been neglected for far too long. But, once you find the motivation to start, it won’t be long before you’ve scratched yet another task off your list.
