Despite the
fact that the summer is typically ‘vacation’ time, it can be pretty hectic and
it might be harder to fit in cooking meals from scratch while you’re picking up
from day camp or dropping off at soccer. But, for the sake of your frugal
living food budget, resist the urge to eat out every night or just pick-up
take-out and stock your freezer with some easy meals that can be ready in a
pinch, when you need them.
Find some great frugal recipes and, on a day when life is a little less hectic, stock your freezer. Remember, think easy, quickly defrosted, and maybe even portable. Homemade beef, turkey or veggie burgers and buns, for example, can be taken out, cooked quickly and eaten on-the-run. Try making bean or beef burritos, wrap them individually and freeze them for a low food cost and fun dinner. Make a big bowl of tuna pasta salad, quinoa salad with beans and veggies, or coleslaw at the beginning of the week and use them as great, low food cost side dishes.
Save dinners out for fun family outings when you’ve got more time to enjoy what you’re eating. With a little planning, your frugal living food budget will be easy to stick to, any time of the year.
