If you’re getting ready to do some landscaping, give careful consideration to how you will have to care for the things you plant. When it comes to turf, for instance, avoiding planting it in places where it will be difficult to maintain could save a lot of time and save water.
Of course, for frugal living, you want to avoid having to water whenever possible but, in the summer months when it can get really dry, you may have to put on the sprinkler occasionally. If you’ve planted grass on a hill or in a small patch that’s along the side of a walkway or deck, you’re going to find it difficult to keep the grass healthy without wasting water.
Consider planting ground cover or other plants that require little water in those areas and save water, every summer.
