Natural Remedies for Psoriasis

E-mail Print PDF

Psoriasis is probably one of the most common skin conditions, often brought on by a family history of psoriasis or even triggered by some food allergies. Although the dry, scaly, itchy and often irritated skin can be unpleasant, there are some natural remedies for psoriasis that are safe, affective and frugal living friendly.

One of the first things you should do, if your skin starts to show signs of psoriasis, is determine whether or not it could be a food allergy that is causing the flare-up. By eliminating those foods that trigger your psoriasis it will be much easier to control this skin condition.

One of our favourite ingredients for the natural remedies you will find here—because it can be used in so many ways and is relatively inexpensive--is tea tree oil and it really isn’t surprising that it’s also noted for its ability to help treat psoriasis.

Tea tree oil works well on psoriasis because while it works to cleanse the skin of bad bacteria, it won’t over-dry the affected area, making the symptoms worse. It’s always wise, however, to test a small area first before applying tea tree oil to larger areas of your body. You can also use tea tree oil as a cleanser by diluting about 10 to 15 drops of tea tree oil in one-quarter to one-half of a cup of water.

Other great natural remedies or, rather, supplements that can help alleviate psoriasis symptoms are to take omega-3 and flax seed oils along with a daily multi-vitamin. Like virtually every other ailment, psoriasis symptoms can be controlled with a good, well-balanced and nutrient rich diet.
